About Our Name
We named our company Promised the World because we feel it speaks to both our past and our future. Our parents and grandparents always promised us the world but they left us a worse one than they came into. With all the world has to offer, they led us here. We do the same – we promise our children we will give them anything, do anything, and work as hard as we can for them. Parents leave early, come home late, work themselves to give their children a better life.
But we often forget to leave them a better planet. The Earth is in trouble. It’s unhealthier than it’s ever been. Plastic pollution, waste management issues, and our entire disposable culture are to blame.
We are taking the first steps of many. Plastic bans are popping up around the world, plastic bags are being removed from supermarket chains and disposable is becoming antiquated. But real change doesn’t mean “changing the world” it means changing yourself first.
There is an old story, dated around 1100. It is called “I Wanted to Change the World.”
I Wanted to Change the World
When I was a young man, I wanted to change the world.
I found it was difficult to change the world, so I tried to change my nation.
When I found I couldn’t change the nation, I began to focus on my town. I couldn’t change the town and as an older man, I tried to change my family.
Now, as an old man, I realize the only thing I can change is myself, and suddenly I realize that if long ago I had changed myself, I could have made an impact on my family. My family and I could have made an impact on our town. Their impact could have changed the nation and I could indeed have changed the world.
